So I'm not going to lie, getting set up in a brand new city, let alone a brand new country, is pretty tough. I mean not that tough because I was well prepared before hand but still there is a lot to do.
Yesterday I opened a bank account (I pick up my bank card next Wednesday), I got a mobile (WAAY better rates here than at home, our phone companies in Canada screw us over big time!), and I got a transit pass (although I only got it for zone 1, when I should have got it for zone 1 and zone 2...). All that in a day. Today I went to get set up to start work and Darren (my Canadian teacher buddy and future roomate) and I got horrible lost for a while. It's bloody confusing getting to know a whole new transport system. Although I have to say that trams are pretty kool. The electric cable wires aren't too pretty though, especially in intersections where a lot of tramps pass through. It's a black webbing of wires. Too bad they don't decorate them with lights because that could be pretty. :P
I'm a little tired and cranky. Staying at a hostel is not exactly agreeing with me. I mean I've met lots of nice people which is great but sharing a room with 5 other people is tough. You can't put on the light in the morning when you wake up because others are sleeping. You can't unpack your things because there is no room so you live out of a suitcase. When you want to read at night, you can't turn on the light because some people are sleeping. And if you go into the common areas, you never know who might find you. Thank god for Darren last night who helped me escape from this overly pushy bloke from New Zealand... That's right, I just used the word bloke. I'm well on my way to becoming an aussie.
OH yes and I should mention, at the hostel there is an especially gorgeous man from the UK who I only saw once but got along great with. Hopefully I will see him again :)
I've become a member at the local library already which is great and how I am able to use the internet. I have internet on my phone but only 1/2 a gig a month. How is that my computer nerd friends? Is that enough would you say? I need to use gps and the public transport site a lot while out. Again I just want to complain about how confusing it is so I can let it go. DAAAMMMNNN! I kknow soon it'll be second nature but right now it's overwhelming and scary! I need a nap.
OH oh there is also a lot of yoga studios around so I will definitely have to get to some classes this weekend, should help me calm down.
With the time difference I am waking up at 6 am everyday and I can't go back to sleep.
Should I work tomorrow? I don't want to lose money and I am really going to need some coming in soon. REALLY! I shouldn't let the transport system or lack of groceries hold me down, right? Maybe I will go and call and get work for tomorrow. I don't know. oye!! I'm thinking about it.
I haven't been able to do much sight-seeing yet or picture taking, but no worries, it is bound to happen soon. I will also get my pics from San Fran up some time soon. CANNOT wait to have my own place!!!
Peaceout!
Half a gig is plenty for what you want to use it for.
ReplyDeleteHalf a gig isn't much at all. Any images or anything that needs to be updated while online on the phone takes up memory and going to different websites uses space, each page you go on uses space. Use it sparingly. I know from experience here. But once you have your internet setup at home the 1/2 gig will be fine. Stay safe. :)
